Latest Flu guidance plus additional aTIV stock information

Date sent: Tuesday 2 October 2018

Dear Practice Manager

You should have received the attached email from Paula McLachlan this morning. It contains all the latest advice from NHS England Public Health re this year's flu vaccines. We thought it worth resending in case any of you have not been included (if you have not received this direct please contact Paula to ensure you are put on the distribution list).

Highlights of the guidance are:

  • There is a further limited supply of aTIV (Fluad) available to order from Seqirus before 12th October- details are included in the documentation
  • You MUST give aTIV (Fluad) to all over 65s and if you do not have any you need to find out which local pharmacies have it so you can send the patients to them. Only if there are absolutely NO supplies of aTIV available locally can you offer Quadrivalent, but you will have to explain to the patient that they are not receiving the recommended vaccine and the risks of this. (You should not be offering Quadrivalent to over 65s at all until after all supplies of Fluad have been delivered in November).
  • It is also now possible for providers to pass on stocks of aTIV under certain conditions so you may be able to obtain stocks from your local pharmacy - details of this are also included.
  • If you have inadvertently used the wrong vaccine on a patient there is information about what you should do.

Kind regards
Donna
