Press Statement: Amazing Effort in Delivering More Than 300,000 COVID Vaccines to Patients Across Kent and Medway
Date published: 17/02/2021
Kent Local Medical Committee applauds general practice for its amazing effort in delivering more than 300,000 COVID vaccines to patients across Kent and Medway. This has been a major achievement and it could not have happened without the commitment and hard work of practice teams and volunteers who have helped to make this happen, often working 7 days a week in all weathers.
In line with government guidance, practices are now calling patients in Cohort 6 (aged between 16 and 64 years with underlying health conditions) to be vaccinated. Patients in Cohort 5 (all those aged 65 and over) will receive letters inviting them to book their vaccinations at mass vaccination sites.
Any patients over the age of 70 years that have not been invited for vaccination and would like to be vaccinated should contact their GP practice directly.
Most patients should have received appointments for their 2nd dose in the coming weeks and they should attend these appointments as planned, unless they are contacted by their practice with an alternative date. We ask patients not to contact their practice with routine vaccination enquiries as phone lines are currently very busy.
We are still in the early stages of the vaccination programme and general practice will continue to play its part in bringing the pandemic to an end.
