Scanning and Workflow Protocol

To reduce workload pressures and help improve access for patients, Dr John Allingham, LMC Medical Secretary, developed and introduced a new standard protocol to St James' Surgery to allow clerical staff to play an active role in processing incoming clinical correspondence, rather than the GP having to deal with every letter.

John has found that introducing this workflow protocol has had a positive impact, resulting in an 80% reduction in paperwork that was seen by GPs in his practice.

John has kindly allowed us to share his protocol. He is also happy to discuss this with any colleagues on Kent and Medway that are interested in adopting a similar approach in their practice.
