Strategic commissioner update – 28 February 2018
Date published: 02/03/2018
A short update on the strategic commissioner proposal following the NHS South Kent Coast CCG meeting last week. The GP membership met on 22 February to discuss development of the strategic commissioner, including the proposal for a shared Kent and Medway Accountable Officer. Before taking a decision on this, they wanted more information on the detail of the proposal and the balance between working at scale, where appropriate, and retaining local autonomy. A further meeting with them is now being arranged.
Six CCGs have now approved the development of a strategic commissioner. The work to establish it is continuing with a series of workshops in March which will include all eight CCGs’ governing body members, lay members and senior management teams. These sessions will discuss which parts of CCG commissioning functions and responsibilities should be led either by individual CCGs or strategically across multiple CCGs.
A version of our previous update from mid-February is available on the Kent and Medway STP website with more detail on the strategic commissioner: https://kentandmedway.nhs.uk/latest-news/developing-a-single-nhs-strategic-commissioner-for-kent-and-medway/
