Old School Surgery is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Practice Manager to lead the operational, administrative and strategic management of the Practice. We are looking for someone who is able to combine a focus on patient care and continuity of care with business and strategic planning skills. It is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills who has a thorough understanding of NHS primary care and a commitment to improving patient services.

Old School Surgery is a small friendly, rural, GMS dispensing practice in the village of Chartham just outside Canterbury, Kent. We are committed to patient centred care and consistently achieve high results in the GP survey. Our small team, led by our GP partner, looks after just over 6,000 patients.

Duties & Responsibilities of Role:

Overall day to day management of the practice.

Leadership and management of administrative, dispensary and Clinical Support Staff.

HR processes; recruitment, staff rotas and performance management, including staff appraisals, and organising training needed.

Ensuring compliance with CQC, NHS contractual requirements and Clinical governance standards

Ensuring compliance and delivery of enhanced services.

Service development and practice improvements.

Maintaining high results in QOF achievement

Managing patient services, workflows and operational efficiency

Representing the practice at Meetings both remotely and in person as needed.

Key point of contact for NHSE, ICB and other key organisations.

Ensuring Infection control compliance

Premises checks and maintenance checks, including Health & Safety, equipment calibration, PAT testing, Fire safety equipment, intruder alarm.

Dealing with any patient complaints and completing the annual complaints return.

Cleaning schedules, overseeing cleaning staff and recording on Teamnet.

Maintenance of the Old School Surgery website.

Liaison with Patient Participation Group.

The list is not exhaustive, and we are looking for a flexible candidate who is able to adapt to the changing needs of the business.

 

Qualifications/Experience that we are looking for:

Good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills.

Previous experience as a Practice Manager or in a similar management role.

Excellent leadership, organisational and communication skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with the GP partner and the wider team.

Ability to work autonomously and make sound decisions under pressure.

High level of IT proficiency (EMIS, Excel/Office, reporting tools).

Ability to analyse and present financial and performance data

Ability to develop, implement and embed policies and procedures.

Experience of staff performance management including appraisals and staff development.

We are looking for someone who is calm and professional, able to navigate competing priorities, as well as supporting the practice team across a fast paced work environment.

Experience of CQC and regulatory requirements.

Experience of delivering and monitoring contractual requirements (QOF, GMS contract, Enhanced services)
