Prescription Clerk – Oakfield Health Centre

We are looking for a reliable and experienced Prescription Clerk who will provide support to our Clinicians in the receipt and preparation of prescriptions for our 9600 patients.


You will be the main point of contact for Patient enquiries about their prescriptions, so resilience is important. You will be liaising on sensitive medical information, so a caring customer service communication style is essential.
This role requires you to use your exceptional organisational and prioritising skills, combined with top level attention to detail.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
Duties will include:

  • Co-ordinating and preparing repeat prescriptions for our Patients
  • Data entry onto Patient records
  • EPS / Online
  • Patient and Pharmacy liaison
  • Monitor Medicine Teams Email inbox
  • Incoming Post change requests
  • Docman Tasks
  • Batches / Dossetts
  • Searches
  • Date checking

The tasks and responsibilities to be undertaken may include any or all of the items in the following lists, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels

Work with our Clinicians to provide a responsive repeat prescription service delegated to the Medicine team as appropriate.

Comply with legal and professional requirements, accepted guidance on professional practice, and with safe systems of work for re-authorising repeat prescriptions.

Run analysis reports and gather information from a variety of sources for continuous improvement, safe management of repeat prescriptions, and to co-ordinate medication reviews or changes.

Expedite urgent prescriptions to help ensure a safe and responsive service for our Patients.

Provide an efficient administration service as part of a Team to ensure the smooth running of the prescription support to our clinicians.

Keep up to date with the Practice’s formulary and the National restricted drugs list.

Build good working relationships with local Pharmacies to help enable our prescription service.

Check emails regularly and deal with them appropriately.

Create ‘tasks’ and assist Clinicians in managing document workflow relating to prescriptions.

Escalate any problems to your line manager or general manager that you need support with.

Provide cover for members of the Medicine team during periods of sickness and annual leave.

Undertake training as requested to support safe and effective services for the Practice.

Carry out any other duties as may reasonably be requested by the Clinicians/general manager/line manager.

Person Specification
Essential:

  • Previous experience of work within a GP Practice
  • Reliable attendance, trustworthy and conscientious
  • Enthusiastic and a self-starter

Preferable:

  • Previous knowledge of EMIS
  • Previous knowledge of Prescriptions

Special Job Requirements:
Ability to concentrate for prolonged periods of time
Ability to deal with matters in a confidential manner
Willingness to work additional hours to cover the holiday/sick leave of other staff
